University of Florida Looking To Innovative Rosemary District

University of Florida Looking To Innovative Rosemary District

University of Florida Looking To Innovative Rosemary District! There is no doubt that Sarasota Real Estate is booming! With a variety of condos being built in the Rosemary district, including The Courtyard At Citrus, it seems that the Rosemary District is the hip new place to be. Earlier this year the University of Florida announced that the would be bringing a new Innovation Station to Sarasota, and perhaps the Rosemary District.

Innovation Station Director, Allen Carlson, spoke to John Hielscher of the Herald-Tribune saying, “Rosemary Square is our primary focus, but other locations are also still in play.” Currently, the Innovation Station is operating out of temporary space at One Sarasota Tower provided by the Barancik Foundation, a major funder of the program. The Innovation Station is looking to occupy 1,200 square feet of office space by early 2017.

The UF Innovation Station hopes to provide Sarasota with access to student technical talent and ideas that will help give the students experience and will help local businesses grow. Local workforce development initiatives are also envisioned for the future with the ultimate goal of positioning this region as a global leader in delivering technology. “Our efforts to diversify the economy with tech innovation just received a major boost with this announcement,” said EDC President Mark Huey. “The UF Innovation Station will fuel the sparks of tech business innovation already rippling through our local economy.”

So why did the University of Florida choose Sarasota County? According to the press release,  they chose Sarasota “because they believe the university can help accelerate growth in its emerging innovation economy. They envision a wide range of initiatives that will impact startup, high-growth and established innovation companies, as well as assist in attracting innovation economy companies to Sarasota County. Critical to accomplishing this impact are strategic education partnerships with a range of local institutions and the potential for public, private and philanthropic collaborations.”

Beginning in August 2017, the UF Innovation Station will hold classes and operate a “Gator Den” at the Venice campus of State College of Florida, providing a more direct pathway for students to continue their education at UF’s Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering. The college is one of the largest engineering schools in the nation with more than 9,300 students and $72 million in research awards for virtually every discipline.
